Job Description

The Director of Operations (DOO) serves the CEO as a cross-organization deputy focused on internal business functions. The DOO provides support to the CEO and leadership by understanding business direction, partnering with leaders to determine priorities, and executing on the company’s objectives. The DOO acts as an interface and coordinator among each part of the business and helps relieve the CEO and other senior executives from day-to-day operational tasks, while bringing solutions to critical problems to the CEO for decision making.

Duties

Strategic Leadership

  • Partner with the CEO to develop strategic internal business objectives and implementation plans
  • Forecast future company operational needs, assist in managing the company’s overall growth and position the back-office to continue supporting the direction and pace of change
  • Participate with Finance and other company leadership, and the practice areas to create cohesive and comprehensive company and departmental business plans that support strategy, mission and vision and reflect company values
  • Ensure daily activities across the business are properly prioritized, in alignment, and adhere to the business plan
  • Oversee and support company policy development and interpretation, addressing complex policy deficiencies and challenges; ensure management understanding and decision buy-in
  • Foster a culture that is responsive to DEI by promoting best practices and guiding them into implementation to improve business outcome
  • Promote collaboration among all parts of the company to ensure that human resource and operations policies and practices are consistently implemented, and all departments operate in the common good
  • Maintain a watchful eye on the business ecosystem, preserve proper operating balance, ensure equity across the organization as needed, and implement required, appropriate changes
  • Assist department heads and practice directors to overcome operations obstacles and resolve problems to help ensure successful business execution
  • Partner with the Executives to identify potential risks (e.g., financial, legal, technological) and implement controls to ensure the well-being of the organization

Operational and Administrative Management

  • Oversee all administrative activities and supervise department leads in HR, Contracts/Proposals, Facilities/Front Desk
  • Ensure proper allocation of resources to adhere to operating plans, reduce costs and increase productivity
  • Assist in developing metrics to evaluate company performance and engage administrative staff to ensure timely, accurate reporting of metrics
  • Identify and implement operational process improvements to drive corporate performance and efficiency
  • Partner with the Finance department and other company leadership on financial planning, forecasting, and reporting
  • Partner with the Executive Vice President for Research to drive optimization of business development processes within research practice areas in collaboration with Practice Directors and leadership
  • Partner with the Chief Scientist to implement Gryphon's technical quality control program to ensure high quality contract products
  • Manage the development and delivery of company-wide communications that inform, educate and help manage expectations
  • Work with HR, Finance, and Practice Directors to understand the demand for and supply of labor and to project hiring needs
  • Assist HR and Operations Manager in identifying needs for training on technical topics, operating practices and compliance with HR policies and laws
  • Develop and oversee implementation of plans to stand up and grow an internal information technology department in line with corporate compliance and staffing needs

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • BA and 10-20 years of experience, or MBA or PhD and 8-10 years of experience in diverse operations and management positions
  • Knowledge of the federal contracting environment
  • Experience creating budgets and financial plans
  • Skilled in internal and external negotiations
  • Strong leadership and organizational capabilities
  • Excellent communications and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of research and consulting environments preferred

Salary Range

Base: $125,000-$150,000
